Touring Choir visits UN

LVPA Touring Choir visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Thursday,September 21. The United Nations wascelebrating the International Day of Peace. The Touring Choir performed an Original piece, “Trail of Tears,” byJackie Tice, a parent of two LVPA students. Mrs. Tice arranged the event.
YoYo Ma, Michael Douglas, Jane Goodall, Anna Cataldi, and Vijay Amritraj werein attendance as Messengers of Peace, using their celebrity status to helppromote world peace. Students from allgrade levels and from all over the country and world (the United Nations Schoolwas present) participated in the events. Yo Yo Ma said in one speech, “What we learned from the wonderful musicof the choir was how important working together is and how universal music canbe.”
The celebration of peace aroundthe world included video conferencing with delegates in Liberia, Kosovo, andthe Democratic Republic of the Congo. The event concluded with a flag raising ceremony with children carryingflags from all United Nation members. Special thanks to Jackie Tice who made this event possible.<SPANSTYLE="MSO-SPACERUN: yes?>
