Message from Coordinator of Humanities

As Coordinator of Humanities, I would like to welcome you to our website, as you view a snapshot of LVPA. We are a Performing Arts High School that offers a rigorous academic curriculum, challenging our students intellectually and instilling their creativity, while integrating the arts into our Humanities courses.

In our English, Foreign Language, and Social Studies departments, courses are offered at the College Prep, Honors, and Advanced Placement levels. Our mission is to promote interpersonal communication skills by facilitating students to interact by developing their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English, as well as in French or Spanish. Our students develop and sharpen their communication and critical thinking skills through a variety of written and discussion-based activities, in English and the Target Language.

In the English classes, students concentrate on the writing process by completing essays and research papers. They study various forms of world literature, and sharpen their critical and analytical skills. In the French and Spanish classes, students concentrate on reading, writing, listening and speaking in the Target Language, while they study Francophone and Latin American cultures. The Social Studies classes take our students on a journey from ancient civilizations to present time, as they learn about the economic, political, artistic, and social development of the times. Our students also have additional opportunities to apply their individual creativity and writing skills to benefit the entire school family, by participating in the Yearbook, Creative Writing, and Newspaper elective classes in their Junior and Senior years.
