Curriculum
The courses required of the Visual Art Major have been carefully designed in order to provide a structured and classical art education. The student will be rigorously trained in drawing, painting, design, and Art History. The goal is to promote a return to excellence in the Visual Arts through intensive training and the implementation of high standards. Presented as an academic pursuit as well as artistic, students will begin to perceive connections between art and other subject areas. Students will build upon learned concepts with the intention of gaining mastery, concentration, a strong work ethic, and self-discipline. Through practice, study, analysis, reading and research, they will learn to apply their intelligence and discernment to the art they create.
Freshman Year
Drawing I

Students will study the elements of drawing with an emphasis on the language and tools of design, measurement, 2-D and 3-D construction, portraiture, still life, design systems, perspective, and value.
Art History I

Ancient World: Prehistoric-Roman(Reading and Writing Intensive)
Sophomore Year

Students will refine their skills with a focus on more sophisticated concepts with advanced 3-D spatial concepts, figure drawing, advanced portraiture, anatomical and master studies.

Middle Ages: Early Christian-Gothic(Reading and Writing Intensive)
Junior Year
Painting
2.0 Credits
Students will learn how to work with the Fletcher system of color mixing and paint application, analyze master works, paint from still lifes, portrait, and landscape.

Early Renaissance-Rococo (Reading and Writing Intensive)
Senior Year
Art Studio (Portfolio Preparation)
2.0 Credits
Students will create a series of original work based on learned concepts, skills, and techniques they have learned throughout their Visual Art training at LVPA.
