Mathematics

Three years required for graduation, but many colleges require four years

Algebra 1 (CP only)

1.0 Credit

This course deals with the developing the algebra of the real number system. It includes a study of properties, equation, inequalities, polynomials, linear functions and their graphs, systems of linear equations, and laws of exponents.

Geometry (CP or Honors)

1.0 Credit

Geometry is the second course in our mathematics sequence. This course enables students to study relationships between the elements of geometry using deductive reasoning. Topics include: basic elements and language of geometry, parallel lines, similar and congruent triangles, are, circles, and polygons. An introduction to non-Euclidian geometry and topology is included.

Algebra 2 (CP or Honors)

1.0 Credit

Algebra 2 is the third course in our mathematical sequence. Topics introduced in Algebra 1 are further developed and expanded. Topics include: relations, functions, linear and non-linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations and inequalities, matrices, and quadratic, exponential and logarithmic functions.

Pre-Calculus (CP or Honors)

1.0 Credit

The fourth course in our sequence, pre-calculus incorporates topics from advanced algebra. Topics include: linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic functions and graphs, right triangle and analytical trigonometry, parametric equations, polar coordinates, sequences, and an introduction to limits.

Calculus (Honors based on sufficient enrollment)

1.0 Credit

Calculus is a college-level mathematics course. Topics include: limits and rates of change, methods and applications of differentiation and integration, infinite sequences and series, analytical geometry and vectors.

Discrete Mathematics (CP or Honors; prerequisite: Algebra 2)

1.0 Credit

Discrete Mathematics is a hands-on, problem-solving course that includes topics which are not normally offered at the high school level. Real problems of our modern day society will be solved using traditional and contemporary math methods.

Topics include: networking graphs & critical path method for scheduling tasks, coding and encryption, combinatorics, statistics, logic, linear programming for maximization problems, and patterns and fractals.

* In these courses, students may enroll in honors based on courses previously taken, achievement level in those courses, and with administrative approval.
